This .ZIP file contains an assortment of Turbo Pascal programs and SALT
scripts which I have written over the years.
To prepare the script files provided with this package (HELP.SLT and
COMP.SLT require more than just compiling) run the batch file MAKESLC.BAT.
ALLSLT
This is a SALT I wrote a long time ago that should act as a logon script to
a variety of different bulletin board types ie PCBoard QuickBBS etc. I have
not updated this for over a year so I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't
work with many BBSs. The script finds your name in Alt-9 of your keyboard
definition file. And your password first in your dialing directory entry
and then in Alt-0 of your keyboard definition file. For more complete
documentation read the file ALL.DOC. ALIAS.SLT is an associated file which
temporarily changes your keyboard definition for Alt-9 and then calls ALL.
In this way allowing you to use a different name. Details of this are in
the above mentioned file.
PASS
This SALT will send your password to the BBS that you are calling. It uses
the same technique as ALLSLT to find your password. This is very handy in
conjunction with RANDPASS.EXE which is described later.
HELP
This salt script simply places a popup window on your screen which can
contain virtually anything you want in it. I use it to tell me what I have
various function keys as doing. I have F1 in my keyboard defintion file as
calling this script and when I need to know what I have definied I just
press F1. This script will have to be modified to every users needs. For an
example just run HELP.SLC by typing Alt-G and then HELP.
TFE
When I first saw TelixFonEd I was very impressed and wanted to call it from
Telix. Unfortunately it was trashing my files. The reason for this is that
Telix does not close the dialing directory file when you shell and so there
were two programs trying to use the same file at once. The TFE manual does
mention this and contains a very similar salt script in the doc, however
there is a slight difference, so I have provided my version here. TFE.SLT
changes the dialing directory file to TFE.DUD calls TFE and then loads
TELIX.FON upon return to telix. In this way you can successfully call TFE
from Telix.
COMP
This SALT prompts you to enter a filename and then calls CS.EXE (The SALT
compiler). It is not necessary to enter the .SLT extension, CS.EXE
automatically assumes that.
AUTODOWN
This SALT is designed to allow automatic downloading from PCBoard with
protcols other than ZModem. To activate it you must run AUTODOWN. You may
wish to enter this into your keyboard defintion. When activated it will
leave a message like "AUTODOWN 1.00 Activated". As soon as you disconect
AUTODOWN ends. This is a script I pretty much gave up on, it should work
normally however, if you are using a protocol which does not send a file
name it will use the name "FINDIT!" I did try to have it read the filename
from the PCBoard prompt, however the script could not process the
characters as fast as they were being received.
COPYCOL
This is a Turbo Pascal program (compiled under 5.5 but should work on any
version from 3.0 to 6.0 I believe) that takes two .CNF files and copies the
colour settings from one to another. It creates a .BAK file of the target
.CNF. I have used this files to set universal colour settings on computers
with different modems, especially after I have set one up. If anyone is
artistic out there, you may like to set up a series of "colour sets" which
could then be moved into Telix with this program. If anyone wishes to do so
I would be glad to give them full credit. Included in this archive is
DEFAULT.CNF which contains the default TELIX colour set, and REUBEN.CNF
which contains the colours that I use.
RANDPASS
This program was written in Turbo Pascal, and it reads a dialing directory
file and replaces all empty password fields with random 8 digit uppercase
passwords. By doing this you can be sure that every BBS you call will have
a different password that is virtually impossible to crack. I recommend
using this on dialing directories what you may get from BBS listings. Then
by using PASS you can send the password to each BBS. The full release of
these products will have the ability to overwrite passwords. Warning: No
backup file is made so be very careful.
SETCOL
This Turbo Pascal program reads in two files. The first file is a standard
Telix configuration file and the second is a text file, normally a SALT
file where you want to replace certain parameters with the defaults as read
from the configuration file. An example of its use is included in the
MAKESLC.BAT file which uses to it partially customize COMP.SLT and HELP.SLT
to your system. For a more complete explanation of its use please refer to
the SETCOL.DOC file.
I take no responsibility for any harm that these programs may cause to your
computer and/or data. These utilities are Copyright 1991 By Reuben Sumner,
you are free to use and edit them as you please.
If you have any suggestions, comments, bug reports etc. please leave me a
message on the Telix Support BBS.
